Research of Music Videos 1- Foster The People 'Call it what you want'

This shot starts the sequence of the music video with a centre frame of the opening crack in the wall this represents the start of the video as they are revealing themselves from behind the wall. This could represent the song that is about begin as a violent or destructive, or could represent that the song is a break through to something within music.

This shot has also been framed central like the previous shot, this shot was a direct cut from the previous shot, this worked as it allows the viewers to see all the members of the band. The main person within the band is also positioned in the centre, this shows his importance within the band, he also has a prop unlike the other members within the band which also helps him to standout. The setting within this shot is also different to which is usually associated to a young band, Foster the people is seen as a indie band that sometimes suits the vintage genre which could use facilities such as large estates. 

The camera then zooms in on the band before cutting to a medium shot of four gold clenched fists which are in a line on a wooden table which has a glass top and gold features, this is symbolises wealth.

The shot has the words 'I've got nothing to lose'

over the top, this implies that the band have nothing to lose but the clock represent time as the only thing that they could lose. They clock that have been used are the heads from grand piano clocks that would be found in places like the we have seen previously in the video.

This image was used as there was words being spoken this means that in the editing process they have had the of put them in over the top. This is also a simple one shot of the main person within the band, this shows his importance or the fact that the story of the song represents him most.

This image frames the man on the right hand side of the scene, this is clever as behind hide him it again shows something to represent old or grand, the painting again shows some thing expensive that is around them as they are running around making a mess. 

This image is of the drummer of the band, while he is being covered in water this again shows the lack of responsibility that the band members have. The scene is again a one shot but not of the main singer but the drummer this represent the part of the song dominated by the drummer. 

Like the shot before of the crack it is central of the frame, but this time is shows a break through and the main member of the bands eye from the other side. This like said could mean a breakthrough part of the song as the wall again crumbles and something can be seen on the other side. But another representation that is being shown is that maybe the band members are be coming that irresponsible that the walls of the house are falling down. Also like shown on the next scene the wall has become fully deystroyed and the band is found behind, again the representation of there music becoming a breakthrough is shown. But also at this stage 'call it what you want' is starting to mean that even the large mansion to them it seems to be a prison but no one would ever really call it that. And the constant breakthroughs could mean that they are escaping using there music.

How this research has influenced my creativity and planning.

This setting isn't realistic for our music video as the facilities aren't available for myself,  but the ideas of setting a band or a singer within some of the settings used has brought me somethings to think about.

I liked the constant feature of the main singer in different situations within the video and the use of the props and the involvement of them with the singer. Also I like their use of clocks as a prop as it presents different representations, so the only thing they can lose is time.
